Some common side effects include nausea, vomiting, constipation, stomach pain, reduced appetite, dry mouth, headache, nervousness, dizziness, difficulty sleeping, sweating, weight loss, irritability, and restlessness. If any of these continue or get worse, let your doctor or pharmacist know.
Your doctor prescribed this medication because the expected benefits outweigh the potential risks. Most people who take it do not experience serious side effects.
This medication can elevate blood pressure, so monitor it regularly and inform your doctor if readings are high.
Contact your doctor immediately if you notice any serious side effects, such as blurred vision, a rapid or irregular heartbeat, mental or behavioral changes (including agitation, aggression, mood swings, depression, hallucinations, unusual thoughts or behavior, or thoughts of self-harm), uncontrolled movements or muscle twitching, signs of poor circulation in the fingers or toes (such as coldness, numbness, pain, or discoloration), unexplained sores on the fingers or toes, sudden verbal outbursts, changes in sexual desire or function, swollen ankles or feet, severe fatigue, unexplained rapid weight loss, or prolonged erections in males.
Seek emergency medical attention immediately if you experience shortness of breath, fainting, chest, jaw, or left arm pain, seizures, one-sided weakness, slurred speech, confusion, or sudden changes in vision.
In rare cases, this medication can elevate serotonin levels and lead to a serious condition known as serotonin syndrome. The risk is higher if you are also taking other medications that affect serotonin — so be sure to inform your doctor or pharmacist of everything you take. Seek immediate medical care if you develop a rapid heartbeat, hallucinations, loss of coordination, severe dizziness, significant nausea, vomiting or diarrhea, muscle twitching, an unexplained fever, or unusual agitation.
Severe allergic reactions are rare but require immediate medical attention. Watch for symptoms such as a rash, itching or swelling (particularly of the face, tongue, or throat), severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing.
This is not an exhaustive list of possible side effects. Report any unlisted effects to your doctor or pharmacist. In the US, you can also report side effects to the FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088 or at www.fda.gov/medwatch.
